I am proud to announce my one woman show will be premiering at this year's Hollywood Fringe Festival: The Terrible Legend of Victoria Woodhull tells the tale of Victoria C. Woodhull, Wall Street's first female stockbroker, the first woman to address Congress and the first woman to run for President of the United States in 1872, over 40 years before women won the right to vote. A leader in the spiritualist movement, with no formal education, she spent the first half of her life as a traveling clairvoyant.
A champion of both women's and worker's rights, Victoria was also a vocal advocate of free love, almost 100 years before the Sexual Revolution of the 1960's! However, Victoria's suffragette sisters quickly turned on Victoria when she was faced with scandal and deliberately left her out of the history books, despite the significant advances she made for women's rights during her time.
In this production, a well-meaning actress, in a misguided attempt at "method acting," attempts to call upon the spirit of Victoria Woodhull, in order to tell her tale from beyond the grave, and in the light of today's recent #MeToo movement, set the record straight.
The Terrible Legend of Victoria Woodhull will take place at The Hobgoblin Playhouse, a 150 year old abandoned theatre (previously The Gleason), along The Walk of Fame at 6520 Hollywood Boulevard.
